Fourth of July Festivities

I hope everyone had a fantastic Fourth of July holiday! Mine was a mix of activity and relaxation, just the way I like it. The first part of Fourth of July involved a trip down to Madison with my chorus to sing with the Wallingford Symphony Orchestra. The WSO was holding their “July Pops” performances over the weekend, where they featured lots of patriotic music! My chorus had a short but entertaining set, and the audience was impressed with our sound. We even had a trio of little girls dancing in the aisles! Our set was later in the evening, so by the time we got back to Central Connecticut, we were famished! It was at this point a few members of my chorus and I decided to try out Lyme Grill in Avon.

Lyme Grill

Lyme Grill is located in Riverdale Farms, an expansive center in Avon that includes businesses, shopping and restaurants. The restaurant has a narrow bar, a medium-sized narrow dining area and a small yet spacious back room. The back room was perfect for our group of eight. The red and gold accents throughout the room made it cozy yet upscale.

Most of our group decided to have Lyme Grill’s loaded nachos, wings, and delicious salads for dinner. The majority of the appetizers weren’t gluten free, so I decided to get their Southwest Burger. It was amazing! This particular burger includes a moist pulled pork, cheddar cheese and coleslaw; which makes for a satisfying bite. I definitely recommend getting it for lunch or dinner!

Holiday in Niantic

McCook PointJuly 4 dawned warm and sunny, the perfect weather for a day at the beach! My mother and I packed our beach gear and drove to our favorite place in Connecticut; Niantic. We have been going here for a few years and find it to be relaxing and peaceful. We like to go to McCook Point, a small town beach with a direct view of Long Island Sound that is also within walking distance of the Niantic Bay Boardwalk and the center of town.

While we were at McCook Point, we ordered lunch from Cafe Sol, a restaurant that prides itself on using organic and locally sourced ingredients. The fact that they have a lot of gluten-free options is a plus! I got a gluten-free grilled cheese and a vanilla latté for lunch, which tasted even better sitting on the beach.
